The Johnson County Bicycle Club began as an offshoot of the Johnson County Outdoor Society in the late 1960s to promote safe recreational and social cycling. The club originally was a part of the Johnson County Parks and Recreation Department. Seeking independence, the club became a separate entity in 1973.
Today, the JCBC is strictly a recreational (non-racing) cycling club whose purpose is to promote bicycling safety, advocacy, and fellowship. Although its roots and club name are centered about Johnson County, JCBC’s interests cover the greater Kansas City Metro and beyond.
The club is governed by a board of directors who are elected annually by the membership, and they are funded by annual club dues, donations, and its 3 annual pay rides: Spring Classic Lonestar Century Cider Mill Century
At the end of each year, the board donates a significant potion of the club's funds to select local and national organizations in appreciation and support of their efforts to promote cycling in our area. Here are just a few of the organizations that have received donations in the past: KanBikeWalk Missouri Bike Federation Kansas City Ghost Bikes Jake Clough Headstrong Foundation Johnson, Douglas, & Miami County Ham Radio Operators Friends of the Prairie Spirit Trail Kanza Rail Trails Major Taylor Cycling Club
Although this website is public, their paying members enjoy special privileges: Access to our monthly online newsletter, highlighting news and the local ride scene. Our special discount card, good at many of the local bike shops. Reduced pricing at all of our paid rides. See the discount amounts at the Local Bike Shops section in the Main Menu. Access to JCBC's Yahoo Group forum, Cycling-n-JC, to keep you in touch with the cycling community, last minute ride schedule changes, and local cycling advocacy issues.
Get connected to your growing cycling community and join today! It’s a great time to be a cyclist!
