Jim Coggins
Webmaster/Membership

Jim started cycling regularly in 1988 as a healthy diversion from smoking. By 2000 he bought his first road bike. In 2002 he quickly got caught up in the local racing scene, which also served as a good excuse to buy more bikes. Jim found his way into the JCBC in 2006 after being asked to run the club's annual August pay ride, which was then called the famous Baldwin City Blast. Shortly after agreeing to lead, Baker University decided to close their doors during August for annual maintenance, making it difficult to continue having the ride at that venue. Thus the Cider Mill Century was born (reborn, for all you who remember it from the 90's). In between Cider Mills Jim also became the club's newsletter editor and webmaster. After striping a few of those job titles in the last year, he currently runs just the website and ride calendar. In the last 3 years Jim's regular 22 mile bike commute to work/home has made him more aware of the community's needs for a better bike/pedestrian environment. He hopes his time with the club will make KC a better place to ride.

Maggi Hacker
Past-President

Maggi Hacker is President of JCBC this year after being on the Board as Tour Director for seven years. Rick Patterson talked her into taking the position in 2000 and it fit so well she kept wearing it! Maggi likes to call herself “hard-core” when it comes to cycling. Until last year she averaged 7000 miles per year. Getting that kind of mileage requires riding year round plus vacationing on the bike. She has traveled through Utah, Colorado, Wisconsin, the Netherlands, Morocco, and multiple times through Iowa on RAGBRAI. She is proud to say she is a Tall Dog now and earned Rookie of the Year last year at Tall Dogs Award Night. She is quick to say she is happiest on two wheels. After a long hard ride on the bicycle she says there isn’t anything more fun than to jump on her Road King Harley and go back and ride fast on the bike route she just Maggi Hacker finished.

Maury Brown
Vice-President, Newsletter Editor

An avid cyclist for over twenty years, Maury now primarily rides with the Prairie Village Yacht Club. Over the years, he has done a wide variety of cycling, including touring, mountain biking, and mountain bike racing.  Maury rides in all months of the year and commutes to work on his bicycle at least a couple of days per week. His current joy is riding with his son on their new tandem. As a bike shop mechanic for ten years, Maury learned a lot about bicycles and the bicycle industry. He has been writing on a broad range of cycling related topics for the JCBC newsletter for over a year now. Maury hopes make local cycling and the JCBC more accessible to both new and experienced cyclists through the JCBC newsletter.

Ken Cobb
President

Ken is an attorney by occupation, but is a cyclist by vocation. He has ridden bikes all of his life, starting as a paper boy and then later on road bikes. For the past few years Ken has been both a recreational cyclist and a regular bicycle commuter. Ken rides most of the JCBC and KCBC organized rides each year. He rides the annual MS Bike Ride as a member of the Cutters team, and serves on the MS Bike Ride Planning committee. Ken’s primary regular riding group is the Prairie Village Yacht Club.

Fred Wohlgemuth
Marketing Director

Fred started riding recreationally in 1985 after flying over his motocross bike’s handle bars (the flying W) at 40 mph and breaking his shoulder. He wanted to stay on two wheels but anything over 30 mph was out of the question. Having done organized rides in Texas, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Idaho and Kansas, he took his cycling passion to Spain with his wife and several local riders last summer. This coming summer Fred and his wife will participate in the Bike Tour of Colorado for the first time. Fred has been the marketing chair for the JCBC board for the last two years. His vision is to increase the membership to new levels while bring awareness of the JCBC’s involvement in the community to the general public.

Kent Fulton
Treasurer

Kent is relatively new to the world of adult cycling. After wearing out his brother-in-law’s loaner, he purchased his first legitimate road bike late in 2002 and has been hooked ever since. Initially he was just looking for some cross training for cross country skiing but soon found biking to be the main attraction.  His enthusiasm was elevated early on by his introduction to the Hen House rides. “What could be better than a Saturday morning ride with a breakfast destination?  These were my kind of people!” He has also enjoyed discovering the multitude of bike rides throughout the metro area posted on the JCBC calendar and participating in the local Brevet series. His personal bicycling highlight to date was the completion of the 2007 Paris-Brest-Paris 1200 k.
