Kansas Bicycle and Pedestrian Community, On August 14, Governor Kathleen Sebelius announced the creation of a transportation task force called “Transportation Leveraging Investments in Kansas” (T-LINK) charged with developing our state’s next transportation program. The T-LINK task force will develop recommendations for an approach that recognizes all forms of transportation and serves the future of our state. We have heard from Governor Sebelius that bicycle and pedestrian needs will be paramount to the discussion of a new transportation program! |

From Laurie Chipman: Hi everyone, the important message below, about supporting the first women's criterium at the Tour of Missouri, is from my friend Sherri who is a triathlete and very involved with the Women's Intersports Network. I think it is very important to support women's racing in general and to support it's first appearance in the Tour of Missouri. To that end I am giving $100. See the message below and give what you feel comfortable with. If you want a schedule of events, please contact me and I will email one for questions contact Amy McMinn below. WOMEN'S PRO CYCLISTS NEED OUR HELP
This email is about women's cycling. But, more than that, it's about refusing to accept limits on women's opportunities. I know many of you are big fans of cycling, but even if you're not, I hope you will read this message and consider helping or forwarding this message to a friend or business associate who might be willing to help. As many of you may know, the Tour of Missouri professional cycling race is coming to MO for it's 2nd year Sept 8-14. This is an exciting international event that brings millions of tourism dollars into MO. Unfortuately, like many professional cycling tours, this tour is for male pro cyclists only. For the first time ever, Kansas City will play host to a WOMEN'S pro race on Monday, September 8 on the Plaza. The women's pro race is by invitation only to some of the best women professional cyclists in the world. The women's race will be showcased on the Plaza shortly before the finish of the St. Joseph-to-Kansas City leg of the men's race. This will be the first time a women's pro race of this caliber will take place in MO. Unfortunately, the women pro racers have very little sponsorship money. In fact, they have so little money for traveling that some of the elite women may not be able to compete without our help. |

From Gina Porter: I've created an exciting opportunity for cyclists during the Tour of Missouri. Pass it along to your cycling and triathlon friends:
The legendary John Howard will be coming "home" during the Tour of Missouri offering midwest cyclists his PowerFiTTE system. This bike fit system is physiologically sound and is the best in the world, utilized by Springfield, Missouri native and pro cyclist Brad Huff of Jelly Belly Racing, among many other national, world, and Olympic champions. |

My Red Diamondback Outlook was stolen sometime today, right in front of my apartment near 87th St. Pkwy and Quivira Rd. It's a cheapo bike I snagged off craigslist, but it's my primary mode of transportation, and I'd kind of like it back. 1999 Diamondback Outlook - Red Weinmann ZAC19 Wheels Forte Slick City ST Tires White bottle cage Clipless pedals with the test platforms still on them (for tennis shoes) Giant(tm) Fenders Blackburn cargo rack Lots of reflective tape It's unmistakably set up as a hybridized commuter bike (I called her "Hybridzilla"), and she's pretty hard to miss. I'd imagine all my accessories (DiNotte headlight, etc) are long gone, but the bike will probably be around somewhere. If you see a red Diamondback Outlook around (especially if it's set up anything like I described above), let me know. I've attached a photo. All my other bikes are down and out in need of repair, so the sooner I find her, the better off I'll be. Thanks! --Noah http://www.kc-bike.net/ |
